If you're spending too much time and effort just treading water and getting nowhere you most likely need a good method of getting your life organized. List building can be a helpful and at times powerful tool in accomplishing that. List building not only helps you decide what must be done but better defines your priorities as well.

Don't know where to start or what to write down? Brainstorming is a great way to go about it. In brainstorming, quantity is what's important rather than quality. You pick a general topic and then write down what ever comes to mind. You'll end up with a list of mostly trivial items with some very important items mixed in. Don't worry about which is which at first, you can pick and choose in the next step. Just let your mind roam free and write until you can't think of anything else

Rough Draft: Once you have chosen your key words, organize them in priority from the most important to the least important. Look at the pros and cons of each word that you chose and decide if they belong. Cross any of your choices off the list that may not be suitable for your final draft.

Now make up your final draft. Here is where you really start looking hard at what the priorities are and where you have to be a bit fearless. You also need to start giving some thought to the time and effort involved in each task. You might pick a number one task that's relatively quick easy to do, yet a high priority to get you started on a successful note.

Executing the list: The key to success of your list is to actually put into action. Manage your time and evaluate your day to make sure you can execute your list. Pick times that can be completed at the same time to maximize your time spent.

The more you do it the easier it will become and the better you will become at getting the important things done when they need to get done. You'll probably end up with much more free time as well.
